Observations: Stonehenge Test for Dubawi's Rising Star Arabic Legend

Dubawi's Arabic Legend returns at Salisbury Wednesday | Amy Lynam

Observations on the European Racing Scene turns the spotlight on the best European races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses early in their careers, horses of note returning to action and young runners that achieved notable results in the sales ring. Wednesday's Insights features TDN Rising Star Arabic Legend.

15.20 Salisbury, Listed, £40,000, 2yo, 8fT
ARABIC LEGEND (IRE) (Dubawi {Ire}) lines up for this Listed Irish Stallion Farms EBF Stonehenge S. with a reputation to enhance, having earned TDN Rising Star status on his debut at Newmarket's July Festival. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid Al Maktoum's Andrew Balding-trained son of the GI E.P.Taylor S. heroine Sheikha Reika (Fr) (Shamardal) beat one of Charlie Appleby's nicer juveniles in Emperor's Star (Fr) (Sea The Stars {Ire}) there and has another to contend with in the Sandown maiden winner Arabian Crown (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}), the €600,000 Arqana Deauville August graduate who is a half-brother to the triple group winner The Juliet Rose (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}).

16.30 Salisbury, Listed, £50,000, 3yo/up, f/m, 9f 201yT
CAERNARFON (GB) (Cityscape {GB}) enjoys a class drop, having failed to back up her Oaks third on her last two starts. While this Listed British EBF 40th Anniversary Upavon Fillies' S. is easier than the G1 Nassau S. she contested last time, the Jack Channon trainee still has a serious rival in David Howden's impressive Listed Pretty Polly S. scorer Running Lion (GB) (Roaring Lion). Rested by the Gosdens having been so disappointing in the G1 Prix de Diane shortly after her Epsom stalls debacle, she has time yet to become the classy performer she had looked at Newmarket in the spring.

HOW THEY FARED
14.33 Deauville, Cond, €34,000, 2yo, c/g, 7 1/2fT
'TDN Rising Star' Alcantor (Fr) (New Bay {GB}), a €180,000 Arqana December half to G2 Union-Rennen winner Boscaccio (Ger) (Mount Nelson {GB}), adopted hold-up tactics in this third start and went from last to first in the straight to easily account for his five rivals by two lengths and more.

15.00 Nottingham, Mdn, £6,850, 2yo, f, 6f 18yT
Godolphin's Crystal Of Time (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), kin to GI Saratoga Derby Invitational and G1 Bayerisches Zuchtrennen hero Nations Pride (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}), was within range of the pace through halfway, but was unable to land a telling blow at the business end and finished a well-beaten fourth on debut.

15.10 Dundalk, Mdn, €15,000, 2yo, 8f (AWT)
Aidan O'Brien trainee Capulet (Justify), a son of G2 Kilboy Estate S. victrix and G1 Nassau S. runner-up Wedding Vow (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), was prominent throughout this debut and dominated in the closing stages to prevail by 3/4-of-a-length as the 6-4 second favourite.
